Just because you're looking to keep that bikini bod slim and trim, doesn't mean you can't indulge in your favorite cocktail from time to time. Celebrity nutritionist, Christine Avanti, author of Skinny Chicks Eat Real Food is offering five easy swaps to keep your beverages refreshingly delicious and healthy.
Load up on fruit. Instead of filling up your glass with sugary pre-made cocktail mixers or not-from-concentrate juices, try fresh fruit or 100% real fruit juice.
Ditch the soft drinks. Sure, it may be tempting to add a splash of cola or lemon-lime soda to sweeten your mixed drink, but there are just as easy lower calorie options to be had. "Use calorie free sparkling water, club soda or flavored seltzer instead," Avanti says.
Fresh herbs add flavor. Whether you prefer cool mint or savory thyme, adding herbs not only boosts the flavor of the drink, but also provides antioxidants and a beautiful presentation.
Try coconut milk. Creamy cocktails are usually chock full of fat, but by simply swapping heavy cream for this tropical alternative, you can easily cut down on calories. Plus, coconut milk also helps boost metabolism.
Say goodbye to spirits. We knowit sounds crazy! But using a lower calorie alcoholic option, like Skinny Vine wines, to make your favorite summer cocktails can save you as many as 200 calories per serving. Not to mention, it's still totally refreshing!
